Karisa Cheng has a background in Linguistics and journalism. She has first hand experience with how people from varying cultures can expand the current narrative in the journalism industry, and is passionate about amplifying voices from marginalized communities. Karisa is multilingual and fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.

    

Karisa is a media specialist at UBC Sauder and a writer for BCLiving Magazine. She had previously worked as a traffic anchor at radio station AM730. Her work in the radio industry trained her to adapt well in a fast paced environment and helped her hone her on-air performances. Writing for BCLiving Magazine opened up opportunities for her to engage with digital media and lifetyle-based writing for an online platform.

She graduated with Distinction from the Broadcast and Online Journalism program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in 2023. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Linguistics from the University of British Columbia in 2020. She participated in internships at CBC Radio, Canada Wide Media, and Translink.

Karisa’ studied both Cantonese and Mandarin professionally growing up. Her skills include proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, proficiency with social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn), and knowledge in Adobe applications (such as Premier Pro, Photoshop, and Audition). She has experience with building websites, live broadcasting, creating content for social media platforms, creating digital graphics, web article writing, and video and audio editing.
